New library services for visually impaired people
Do you find it difficult to read ordinary sized print? Do you have problems using a computer because you can’t read the text or see the icons clearly? The Library Service can help you. Recently we joined forces with the National Library for the Blind to launch our new services for visually impaired people.
New electronic magnifiers These state-of-the-art new electronic magnifying machines can enlarge the print on anything from books and letters to the small print on a medicine bottle. Come and try one out – they are very easy to use. Locally there is one in Hemel Hempstead library.
New magnification and speech software to improve computer access The service has recently launched Supernova access software at 19 locations across Hertfordshire (locally at Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead Libraries.) This software can help you in the use of computer applications such as Word, Email and the Internet. The computer display can be magnified so that you can see what’s happening more easily and the speech software will describe what is taking place on the screen.
New Reading Group for people who read Large Print or listen to Talking Books Interested in joining a new reading group at Berkhamsted Library? You don’t have to miss out on this popular pastime - this group will ‘read’ and discuss books in Large Print or Talking Book format, borrowed free of charge from your local library. Free parking and disabled access available. Contact Kathy Warden or Annette Jackson on 01438 737333, or ask at your local library. |
